The Do’s and Don’ts of Throwing a Housewarming Party | VenueShire
Do: Unpack First
As soon as you move in to your new home you will be under pressure from your friends and family to show off your new place. While you may be anxious to invite people over, don’t make plans for a housewarming party until you have fully unpacked. Having to unpack at the last minute will lead to unnecessary stress that will keep you from hosting the housewarming party of your dreams. By having everything unpacked and set up in advance you will be able to relax and actually enjoy your own party.
Don’t: Forget to Invite Your New Neighbours
You probably already have a good idea of who is on the guest list for your housewarming party; your old roommates, your best friends and maybe even your parents. One group of that you shouldn’t forget to invite is your new neighbors. Including your new neighbors in your housewarming festivities is not only a great way to break the ice, but will also lead to invitations to future events around your neighborhood.
Do: Try a New Drink Recipe
There is no better way to break the ice at a party than serving a new and interesting cocktail. Not only will the drinks help your guests to loosen up, the interesting ingredients will provide a topic of conversation for guests who may have just met. In addition to cocktails, be sure to have plenty of nonalcoholic beverages available for designated drivers and other nondrinking guests.
Don’t: Get too crazy
While it is a great idea to serve cocktails, it is also important to encourage your guests to drink responsibly. If your housewarming party gets too loud and rowdy, you will immediately get a reputation around the neighborhood as someone no one wants to live next to. If the police show up at your door in response to a noise complaint you may never live it down.
Do: Provide a Vegetarian (or even vegan) Option
When cooking or ordering food for your party, keep in mind that you do not yet know the dietary restrictions of your new neighbors. Even if you know that your family and friends eat meat and other animal products, you cannot assume that everyone in your neighborhood eats the same way. Anyone who has ever been on a special diet knows how it feels to go to a party and not be able to eat anything. By providing a meat-free option you can make sure that all of your guests feel welcome and have plenty to eat at your party.
Don’t: Forget to Say Thank You
The practice of writing handwritten thank you notes may seem a bit antiquated, but it really is the best way to let your guests know how much you appreciate their gifts and their presence at your party. Your friends and new neighbors will be very surprised to receive handwritten notes and will immediately be looking forward to their next visit to your home.
